Oh my goodness the parents will never be able to sleep after this!
Families like taking pictures of their kids to preserve their baby from growing up too fast but after reading about this incident, parents may rethink where and when they start snapping family pictures!
Last Thursday (10 May), a couple in India took their 10-month-old baby daughter for a checkup at a nearby clinic before heading to a shopping mall in Ganganagar district, Rajasthan.
Like any other proud parents, they took selfies with their baby in the corridor of the mall. Everything seemed fine until they went up the escalator.
Apparently, the husband asked for a selfie with his wife while they were on the moving escalator. What followed next was truly shocking!
The mother lost her balance and accidentally dropped her baby!
The baby daughter hit the railing before falling three storeys through the gap. Panicked shoppers could be seen rushing downstairs to help the baby with the parents.
Unfortunately, the baby died instantly and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
India is reported to have highest numbers of deaths linked to selfies in the world according to a study by Carnegie Mellon University and Indraprastha Institute of Information Delhi.
In a similar incident in Mumbai a few days back, a child slipped off his mother’s arms from the second floor and died.
Taking selfies isn’t bad but parents must watch where they are taking pictures of the family to prevent unforeseen and irreversible accidents. Taking photos should be creating good memories not sad ones!
