The books we get for the children are highly dependent on what’s stocked in our local bookstores. Occasionally parents may get children books from another country that’s not available in Malaysia from friends and family or when parents themselves managed to spot a good one while travelling. That’s not to say the books here are bad but sometimes parents are looking for something different.
Wonderbly’s The Little Boy/ Girl Who Lost Their Name has managed to do just that by helping parents create a storybook just for their child. What’s even more precious is that the child is the character of the book too! Even kids with special names can see their names spelt out in the book since the book is highly personable. Parents just need to choose the story templates available and the book will be printed and delivered to their doorstep.
So, how is it possible and why it works?
1. There are 50 character stories to choose from
Wonderbly has prepared over 50 character stories for parents to choose. Parents get to select the characters who will pass the moral story to the child based on each letter of the child’s name. For example, if the child is named Evelyn, parents get to pick animals such as the eagle or elephant. Among the moral values in the selection are bravery, generosity and acceptance.
2. It lets adults exercise some creativity
Parenting should be a fun journey and getting to choose story templates for the child adds to that fun. The story templates available also help parents create a storybook for their child even if they are stuck for ideas. It lets parents create something special for their child too.
3. Kids get excited over their initials
When a child sees his or her name spelt out for the first time, they can get a bit obsessive looking for the same letters that make up their name. Since the story segments are made up of each letter in the child’s name, it’ll be a fun way to get them to identify some letters of the alphabet and eventually learning to spell their own names!
Best of all, it’s a story about THEM. How many kids can say they are the main character of a book?
Last but not least, the book will become a keepsake because it’s personalized by the family. Having a book made just for them also creates good childhood memories. When they have grown up, they can reminisce about the time their parents read the special book to them.
