Raya is in a few days and most households are putting the final touches to their Raya prep. Kids want to help out too so here are some ways they can do so without changing your original plans too much 😉 It’s also a sneaky way to keep them occupied during the school holidays!
1. Get kids to help set the table
If the kids are driving you up the wall, help them be useful around the house by letting them arrange the kuih raya on the table. Kids like being helpful to adults so give them tasks to complete and they’ll feel like they did a part to make the celebration possible!
2. Make putting up decor fun
Get the kids to help you string lights or put up décor such as the lamps around the house. If everything is already in place, get them to make some Raya craft or art for the home or for relatives such as a card. For the older kids, rope them in to help with decorations that require some skill such as weaving the ketupat using ribbons.
3. It takes teamwork to put up the curtains
Putting up curtains can be tiring for our old folks so help them out! Placing the hooks one by one can be a challenge due to the weight of the curtain and sometimes the eyelets holding the fabric up can snap! If possible, switch to the hoops and rods style next time.
4. Cleaning the house
Another way to involve the little ones is when it comes to cleaning the house. Get them to help by letting them wipe areas they could reach such as the table or just clean up their rooms. They may even need to reorganize their bedroom too. It’s a plus if you managed to find child-sized mops and brooms.
5. Don’t forget the kuihs!
Raya preparations include making the kuihs so find some ways young kids could help such as rolling the dough or preparing the serving plate or tub. The older kids can help guide them while helping out too!
